Sanjay Kamat is Managing Partner for Bell Labs Consulting, head of the Modeling R&D Practice, and leader of the Bell Labs Silicon Valley Location, which is focused on exploring new approaches to cloud and software-defined networking.
In this role, Sanjay and his team are focused on developing innovative models, tools, frameworks and insights to drive customers’ key transformation decisions.
Sanjay is keenly interested in studying how emerging technologies and user behavior trends impact communications service providers in their design of networks, choice of operating models, and shifts in business models.
Previously, Sanjay led a team of analysts supporting business modeling and strategic analysis in support of R&D, marketing, and sales groups. He also was the general manager of a venture in its incubation stage to commercialize innovative wireless security technology from Bell Labs. Before joining Bell Labs, he was a research scientist at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, where he researched QoS routing and contributed to IETF and other standards, and was part of a team that built one of the industry’s first IP/MPLS switch routers.
Sanjay received his PhD in Computer Science from Texas A&M University. He also holds an MBA degree from Columbia University. He received his Masters (Gold Medalist, Computer Science) and Bachelors (Mechanical Engineering) degrees from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India. He is also a recipient of the Bell Labs President’s Awards, holds nine patents, and has authored numerous technical publications.
