Ryan earned his B.Eng.(Hons) and PhD. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Limerick in 2004 and 2008, respectively. He was a Research Assistant at Bell Labs, Murray Hill from 2005-2007 during his doctoral work. After receiving his PhD., he was a CTVR postdoctoral associate from 2008-2009 and a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2009-2012. He joined Bell Labs Ireland in 2012. Ryan conducts research in the area of micro/nanoscale heat and mass transfer with application to electronic and photonics cooling as well as large-scale heat exchange. Ryan has published more than 10 archival journal papers, numerous conference papers and currently holds two granted patents with ten patents pending.
Honors and Awards
Ryan’s research has been honored with awards including a SFI-funded PhD. fellowship, a IRCSET Inspire/Marie Curie Mobility Fellowship, two SFI-funded National Access Program awards, and a best paper award at the 2012 ASME International Micro/Nanoscale Heat and Mass Transfer Conference.
