Building STEAM at Inspirefest 2017, Dublin

June 29, 2017

We are on the verge of a major technological evolution that will transform human existence. We often fail to recognize these kinds of changes, even while they are taking place, because they are not immediately obvious to our daily lives, but as we continue to expand our use of artificial intelligence, IoT devices, limitless global data connectivity, and other fundamental factors, we will be faced with a new world. Understanding how these changes will affect us, and ensuring that our technology will help us, is part of Bell Labs’ mission. This is why we are working on solving this challenge with artists and scientists to “make visible the invisible” and we’re taking it to Inspirefest 2017 in Dublin, Ireland at the Bord Gais EnergyTheatre, July 6 – 8th.

Silicon Republic’s international event is a festival of technology, science, design and the arts, with a focus on the future of STEM. Something that Bell Labs is also very passionate about given its long and storied history of supporting the creation of new art. It started over 50 years ago with Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.) initiated by two Bell Labs engineers, Billy Kluver and Fred Waldhauer, and two artists, Robert Rauschenberg and Robert Whitman. Today we are continuing this tradition of creative exploration to meld science with art to introduce Art(s) in STEAM for future generations.

There is an impressive lineup of more than 50 speakers at this year’s event including our very own Marcus Weldon and Domhnaill Hernon along with Ana Matronic (Scissor Sisters), artist, DJ and BBC Click contributor, Ellen Pao high profile mover in the tech and investment world, Thomas Jelley of the Sodexo Institute for Quality of Life, Rhianna Pratchett the lead writer for Tomb Raider, and others. You’ll learn about key trends from Infosec to blockchain, AI to robotics, games, fintech and medtech, to professional development and a special performance with Philip King (Other Voices) and Bell Labs.
