Integrated Coherent Transmitter Receiver optical sub-assemblies

Enabling high-performance optics for coherent networking

Leveraging monolithically integrated indium phosphide (InP) photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and advanced packaging, Nokia Integrated Coherent Transmitter Receiver (ICTR) optical sub-assemblies set industry benchmarks for high-density integration of multiple discrete functions into a single transceiver submodule, including coherent PICs, radio frequency application-specific integrated circuit (RF-ASIC) and thermoelectric cooling.

Nokia’s ICTR optics are designed for easy integration into digital coherent optic (DCO) transceivers or transponder modules and coherent pluggable optics. The assembly consists of a hermetic package containing all the coherent transmit and receive optics with a digital control interface.  ICTR optics have built-in memory, a controller and full C-band tunability. Their optical performance is well suited for metro/regional networks in colorless applications.

Use cases

Nokia TROSAs are designed for easy integration into embedded optical engines or transponder modules as well as next-generation coherent pluggables. Two TROSAs are available: 

  • ICTR140 supporting baud rates up to 148GBaud for 800 Gb/s pluggable DCO and 1.2 Tb/s high-performance applications
  • ICTR64 supporting baud rates up to 71GBaud for 400 Gb/s pluggable DCO applications
