The way we use our mobile devices is dramatically changing as we livestream content, create high bit-rate videos and regularly participate in video conferencing. Additionally, as the Internet of Things becomes more pervasive and data is exchanged in real time it means that billions of devices are uploading, not just downloading data. Expanding uplink capacity without sacrificing downlink performance is becoming a big challenge for Communication Service Providers. To meet that challenge, AT&T and Nokia Bell Labs are collaborating in the lab on a prototype for an emerging technology called distributed massive MIMO. Hear from Dave Wolter, Assistant Vice President for Radio Technology at AT&T Labs, and Peter Vetter, President of Nokia Bell Labs Core Research, as they discuss how distributed massive MIMO works and how it would greatly boost uplink capacity in the 5G-Advanced era.
