GreenTouch Exceeds Mission Goals, Delivers New Technology to Improve Energy Efficiency in Wireless Networks by More Than 10,000X
GreenTouch™, the global consortium dedicated to dramatically improving the energy efficiency of data communications networks, today announced its final results and unveiled new tools, technologies and architectures to improve the energy efficiencies of communications networks in years to come. During a celebratory event in New York, GreenTouch revealed that its new approaches can improve energy efficiencies of mobile-access networks by more than 10,000X – an achievement far exceeding the original goals of the working group.
New GreenTouch innovations to reduce energy consumption in wireline access communications networks by 46 percent
GreenTouch™, the global consortium dedicated to dramatically improving the energy efficiency of data communications networks, today announced two new technology innovations, both significant milestones in network energy conservation. The new technologies will reduce overall energy consumption in wireline access networks by an impressive 46 percent, which translates into a combined energy savings equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of 1.2 million passenger vehicles.

Fondazione Politecnico Di Milano to Host the Spring Members' Meeting of Greentouch
Fondazione Politecnico di Milano will host at its premises in Piazza Leonardo da Vinci, from May 5th through May 8th, 2014, the spring members’ meeting of GreenTouch, the international consortium launched in 2010 with the ambitious goal of redesigning communications networks to dramatically improve their energy efficiency. During the four-day event, GreenTouch members will provide updates on the more than 16 projects currently underway and demonstrate new network architectures and technologies in development.
Thierry Klein named to Momentum for Change Advisory Panel
Dr. Thierry Klein, Chairman of the GreenTouch Technical Committee has been named a Momentum for Change Advisory Panel Member. The initiative is led by the UN Climate Change Secretariat. Its focus is to raise awareness of the most practical, scalable and replicable examples of what people, businesses, governments and industries are doing to tackle climate change.

Fiber-to-the-Home Goes Green: New Technology Dramatically Reduces Energy Need
March 27, 2012 – The GreenTouch Consortium will announce and demonstrate a new technology that will dramatically reduce energy consumption in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks, as well as other applications. The breakthrough Bit-Interleaved Passive Optical Network (Bi-PON) technology is the second major milestone reached by the consortium. When deployed, it will enable a power reduction of 30 times over current technologies while improving performance and reducing cost.
